This run was different from what we would normally do it was a joint venture with the Monash men’s shed. They had a garage sale and we tried a car boot sale with a sausage sizzle.
Unfortunately the weather was not kind,it was the coldest March day in four years with quite a few rain and hail showers. Sadly this had an negative effect on the number of potential customers from the surrounding community, with numbers well down on what was experienced at last years Men’s Shed garage sale. But despite this we made the best of the day.
Kay and I met Geoff Ogden just after 7am to open our garage and tow the BBQ trailer and place it opposite the entrance to the Guide hall where the Man’s Shed had their stalls set up.
Along with Pete and Cynthia Charman we set up our car boot sale adjacent to the BBQ trailer, with multiple gazebo’s for shelter we started the joint selling event at about 8.30 am with Geoff, Bruce and Ray Eaton manning the BBQ.
Both the men’s shed members and their customers and our own members shopped for items on sale and hot snags with onion. Despite the weather more of our members arrived with a good turn out of Earlies for display (Total of Ten), and we settled in for a good sociable day as we always’s do even if the expected numbers of buyers were down.
There was an extensive and varied selection of all sorts of tools and equipment for sale by the Men’s Shed and we all sorted through it and found items to buy. In addition we were able to have a sneek look inside our hall, it is coming along well and looking promising.
At about 1 pm the cold day was getting the better of us and all parties started to pack up. The day may not have been a great fundraiser due to the weather, but we still enjoyed ourselves and mixed well with the Mens Shed members, they also gave us a couple of items that we can auction at our presentation night. Existing as co tenants is looking promising for both parties.
A couple of events for the day worth mentioning are while driving Gary and Judy Hislop in their panel van had a wind screen wipers failure on the way to the run during the pouring rain. but this did not deter them they still attended. Also after packing up our car Kay and I were set to leave only to find we had a flat battery, along came Pete Charman, Geoff and Derk to our rescue and jump started our car. Thank’s guy’s.
Also thanks to the guy’s that manned the BBQ all day’ “well done”.
